At the end of the dedication we open the floor to comments and we are thanked and blessed with God’s presence and continued strength. We are presented with all sorts of gifts: chickens, mangos, doves, maize, tomatoes, greens, bananas, beans, rice, onions, ground nuts, to name a few.
At other villages they apologize for not being able to give us more than thanks and blessings. They promise to take care of the well and we are given hugs and handshakes. We are sung to the truck dancing and celebrating. One headman said, ‘it is due to poverty levels here in Malawi. We would want to give you a goat, but we have only a chicken for you.’
It is of course more than we need and our workers take most of the gifts (I do eat some ground nuts and bananas and mangoes)
